Our little boys are just over 1 week old, and although there have been many new adventures, there have also been some realizations that this is tough work! I can't remember last night...it was almost a blur to me...I can't remember if it was the 3am feeding or the 5am screaming that had me wondering..."How do you turn these noisemakers off!" As I held Caden in my arms last night as I dozed in and out of sleep, I realized that I was in it for the long haul. This beautiful little boy who is a champ during feedings and is a much better sucker than his bigger brother, was also the little noise maker that just quite hasn't got on the same routine as everyone else. One of my favorite things to do with these little guys is during their 7am feeding bring the one that is not attached to his mother in with me and set him in between our two pillows. We lay there and I listen to them coo as they try and squirm there way out of the straight jacket swaddle that has kept them so warm over the last several hours of sleep.
One thing is for certain though...CORIE HAS ACHIEVED CHAMPION STATUS!!! She does not complain, bitch, moan, etc...she actually enjoys getting up with them in the middle of the night because that is considered "her time" with the boys. Just mom and her little ones as she feeds them, soothes them, and loves them unconditionally. I on the other hand just wake up in the middle of the night just to see if she is doing okay and that my boys are still doing alright!
We came down to Grammy and Grandpa's this weekend to see how our little fellows would do on a weekend trip. Although they sleep awesome during the day...nighttime is a totally different story. Last night as we were getting them ready to have their 11pm feeding we had a funny little incident. Although they are boys, they have no ability to control their little wiener schnitzels. About halfway through Caden's diaper changing, and in between the switch between dirty diaper and new diaper...he decided to shoot a full stream of #1 over his left shoulder. As Grammy and I jumped back with this unexpected surprise, there was a full stream flying through the air towards his left ear. We laughed! After we thought it was all over and Daddy decided to continue with the diaper change...here we go again and another long stream of fluid goes flying through the air. We all laughed uncontrollably. Those little buggers are quite the characters. Maybe we will get some use out of those pee pee tee pee's!
Last but not least some of you may be wondering how our dog "Macie Girl" is doing with all of the new changes. To put it lightly...it is challenging! The other night after Corie and I had changed the boys out and were getting ready for bed. Corie came from upstairs and asked if I had seen the dog. After we called for her she came down and what did we find...no, not a shoe, or a slipper...all we saw was FOAM! I'm not talking from the bed or a mattress...I mean foaming from the DOGS mouth! She had taken them...BOTH OF THEM! Both of our brand new onesies had been completely devoured. Our little precious macie girl had eaten not one but two onesies!! So after two cap fulls of hydrogen peroxide and a walk around the parking lot...up came two completely shredded little boys outfits! So, have things changed in our household...the answer to that question is...YES!!!, and it's only the beginning of what could be a battle of two evils...the dog's...and our will not to kill her!

Love you blog ... it is so fun to read of your experiences we old parents have experienced and finding your delight in them as new experiences for you! I laughed right out loud at your amazement in the peeing during the diaper change ... first time that happened to me was when my first boy (after 2 girls) peed all over the pediatrician. His comment? "Well the water works!" Your boys are beautiful! Can hardly wait to meet them in person.
ReplyDeleteSmart move on the swaddle! We didn't work that out until kid #3! Keep that up!! And we have totally been there on the hydrogen peroxide- we were recovering an entire pan of brownies though! Poor dog got a couple of spoonfuls that resulted in zero action before we realized it was very old... off to the drugstore we went for some fresh stuff and hello brownies! Hang in there!!! It will be about 16 weeks of crazy newborn stuff and then things will settle a bit. You guys can do it!
